PORTFOLIO OVERVIEW
Currently,
I am seeking an internship starting Summer 2016 in the Chemical
Engineering industry. The purpose of my professional portfolio is to
demonstrate the leadership traits I have gained through my academic
achievements, extracurricular activities, and work experiences. In the
paragraphs below, I highlight three characteristics that make me a great
leader. First, a leader is hardworking, organized, and has outstanding
time management, all of which I demonstrate by juggling a job, a rigorous class
schedule, and extracurricular activities. Second, a leader implements
initiative, innovation, analysis, and adaptability to solve problems. Likewise,
I use my problem solving skills in my engineering class team projects, in my
math tutoring job, and in my AIChE officer roles. Finally, a leader has
excellent communication skills. Through my Costa Rica Service Trip and multiple
work experiences, I have learned how to communicate with a diverse team, how to
resolve team conflict, and how to maximize technological collaboration. Most
importantly, I believe I make a great team leader because of my positive
attitude that I use to motivate the team to keep working hard. My experiences
have helped me grow as an individual and as a professional. Each paragraph
below contains links to additional information in my Professional Portfolio. I
hope you enjoy learning more about me as you view my Portfolio.
STRONG WORK ETHIC![]() Trying to balance challenging classes, a job, and extracurricular activities requires a strong work ethic. Not only do I juggle a busy schedule, but also I strive to do my best in all my work. As an A&M Honors student, I strive to achieve straight A’s, but sometimes it is hard to conquer difficult class topics. However, because I am committed, I try, try again until I have tackled those challenges, whether I have to try a new study method, ask a fellow student for help, or go to my professor’s office hours. My 4.0 GPA exemplifies my academic achievement in my Engineering and Honors courses. Additionally, juggling a Math tutoring job while in school exemplifies my time management skills. In order to manage my time efficiently, I have learned to be organized, adaptable, and proactive. Overall, in order to be a leader in my diverse activities and in my honors courses, I utilize commitment as my driving force, putting 100% of my heart into what I am passionate about. Overall, my strong work ethic has helped me develop time management skills, confidence in my work, and determination to do my best. If there is a will, there is a way! Specific examples of my strong work ethic can be found in the links above.

PROBLEM SOLVING![]() From my experiences, I have learned that problem solving involves critical thinking, creativity, and leadership. For example, in my Engineering Air-Powered Car Project, my team had to brainstorm design models to maximize the distance the car traveled. The stages of planning, testing, and refining were critical to the success of the project. In my Environmental Design course, our professor emphasized creative design by requiring weekly inventions. Since we had to do a patent search to make sure our product did not already exist, coming up with new ideas required passion and persistence. Even more, in my Engineering courses and as a Math Tutor, I have learned that many times there are multiple ways to solve a problem, but finding the most efficient method requires critical thinking. Lastly, my leadership positions have helped me realize the importance of problem solving. As a leader in AIChE, I have taken initiative to solve committee problems, such as what is the best way to encourage membership or what is the best way to save money but still hold a fun event. Applying problem solving skills has helped me be a successful leader in all of my activities. Click on the links within this paragraph to learn more about my problem solving skills.

COMMUNICATION![]() Effective communication is key in school, in the workplace, and even in casual settings. In my Technical Writing course, I have learned that effective communicate requires understanding the audience and purpose. As a Math Tutor, in order to help my student's level in order to clearly communicate how to solve a math problem. As the AIChE Sophomore Retreat Student Relations Chair, in order to encourage rising Sophomores to attend the retreat, I must be able to effectively communicate through electronic advertisements as well as face-to-face informationals. Lastly, in all my school group projects, such as my Engineering 111 Car Project and Technical Writing Collaborative Infographic, I have practiced communication within a team setting. In team settings, I have learned that communication is key to resolving team conflicts by talking directly to team members about concerns. Together as a team, when we unite towards a common goal and communicate team expectations up front, we are more successful overall as a team. Overall, effective communication is essential in all my activities from team projects to my job. Click on the links within this paragraph to learn more about my communication skills.
